Cough + Runny Nose + Headache

If you are under 18, if symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks, if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, a fever over 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit, or any other accompanying symptoms, it is particularly important that you contact your healthcare provider.

Quitting smoking and avoiding inhaled irritants such as pollen, dust and fragrances can help decrease irritation and inflammation of the throat, soothing a cough. Staying hydrated is also recommended in order to thin and clear mucous. The use of a humidifier, cough drop products, and consuming tea or soup can also help relieve a cough.

Reducing stress through methods such meditation, resting, avoiding bright lights, staying hydrated, maintaining a healthy diet, stretching the muscles in the back of the neck, massages, and placing a cool washcloth on the back of the neck can treat headaches.

When treating cough, cold and allergy symptoms, it is important not to use products with unnecessary active ingredients. For cough, runny nose, and headache, try to use products containing a cough suppressant such as dextromethophan(for a dry cough), or an expectorant such as gauifenesin(for a cough with mucous production). Other useful ingredients include antihistamines for runny nose, sneezing and itchiness, and also a pain reliever to treat headache.
