If you are under 18, have other medical conditions, pain when swallowing, heartburn for more than 2 days a week for 3 months or more, still have heartburn after an OTC treatment, are vomiting, have symptoms other than heartburn or are pregnant or nursing, it is particularly important that you contact your healthcare provider.
The following can help to treat heartburn:
Losing weight if you are overweight.
Elevating the head of your bed.
Eating smaller meals.
Decreasing dietary fat intake(see nutrition section).
Avoid eating 2-3 hours before lying down.
Monitoring your lifestyle for triggers of heartburn and removing them. Common triggers of heartburn include spicy or greasy foods, juices, soda, alcohol, and smoking.
