Hemorrhoids

Consult with your primary care physician before self treating hemorrhoids.

It is particularly important to consult with your primary care physician if you have a GI disease, family history of colon cancer, bleeding, black tarry stools, or if the condition has not resolved after seven days of treatment.

The following can help treat hemorrhoids:

Increasing insoluble fiber intake(slowly adding between 25 and 30 grams of fiber to your diet) while maintaining adequate hydration/fluid intake. Insoluble fiber sources include whole grains(bread, cereal, rice, and oats), fruits and vegetables.

Exercising.

Avoid spicy foods.

Avoid caffeine.

Avoid citrus drinks.

Avoiding NSAID medications if possible.

Avoid lifting heavy objects.

Avoid sitting on the toilet for more than 10 minutes.

Sitting in warm water(110-115 Degrees F) 2-4 times a day for 10-20 minutes, and washing the anal region with mild unscented soap regularly and after each bowel movement can help to treat hemorrhoids.
