Head Lice

If you have other skin infections, lice infestation of the eyelids or eyebrows, active tumors present, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are hypersensitive to ragweed, chrysanthemums, or pediculicide ingredients it is particularly important that you contact your healthcare provider before self treating for lice.

It is important not to self treat for lice unless you are 100% certain that it is a case of lice infestation. One way to inspect for lice is to use a fine tooth comb or lice comb. Comb the entire scalp 2-3 times, and then inspect the comb using a light and magnifying glass. Also inspect the scalp using a light and magnifying glass. Lice are usually attached to hair, and their eggs appear as small yellow sacks on the scalp.

All clothes should be washed and dried in a clothes dryer and hair brushes and combs should be washed in hot water.

Carpets should be vacuumed regularly.

Shaving the entire scalp is an option.

Using a hair dryer or heated air daily is effective in killing lice and lice eggs.

Lice combs and shampoos are effective in the treatment of lice.

Those with lice should avoid direct physical contact with others, and should not share any hats, combs, or other clothing articles with others while they are infested.
