Seborrheic Dermatitis

Consult with your primary care physician before self treating seborrheic dermatitis.

Seborrheic dermatitis can be exacerbated by obesity, stress, light, chemical injuries, infections, alcohol, tobacco, cold weather, and prescription medications (corticosteroid withdrawal). This is a chronic condition and the goal is to minimize exacerbations.

When a medicated shampoo is used for treatment, the shampoo is worked into the scalp and allowed to soak in for 3-5 minutes. These shampoos should be used daily for one week, followed by only 2-3 times per week for the next 4 weeks. Once the condition is controlled, the medicated shampoo should only be used once a week.
