Female Yeast Infection

If you are under 18, are pregnant, have a fever, have lower abdomen, shoulder or back pain, have more than 3 yeast infections per year, have had a yeast infection within the past 2 months, or have other symptoms, it is particularly important that you contact your healthcare provider.

Decreasing sugar consumption, consuming more yogurt or probiotic supplements, and using pads instead of tampons while using OTC medications(tampons can absorb the medicine) can help this condition. Avoid the use of soap to clean the vaginal area (rinse with water only), avoid sexual intercourse if it is painful (using lubricating products can reduce irritation). Sitting in warm water if the area is swollen or painful (or placing damp cloth on the area), and avoiding rubbing to relieve itching can also help treat female yeast infections.

Some possible causes of yeast infections include HIV, diabetes, antibiotic use, hormone fluctuations, and chemotherapeutic agents.
